the threat of rain....

Why Hello....
So its the start of a new work week, and my ride for monday was derailed by the threat of Rain. Now i look to the mighty iPhone's weather widget to see if i should ride the next day. The Phone usually shows a sun with the temp, but not monday it was a dark cloud with all the foreboding doom of bad weather so i said okay lets drive.
Then fast forward a few hours shall we...iPhone changes from dark clouds to Mr. Happy sun. GRRRRRRR. Frustration and anger. I mean really? Its beautiful out i mean a drop dead gorgeous day! So i was robbed of a ride.
Now time to rant...(clearing my throat) ....
To the weather person who predicted rain. I mean wow could you have been more wrong. You weren't even close. Lets use an example. Lets say you were as wrong as a Doctor telling a 13 year old boy with a broken arm that he was going through his third trimester. thats how off you were.
Now i did get to ride today, against the wind.... the whole way to work. And it was hard and long and my arms turned a really strange color and my nose ran a semi-clear liquid. But i was smiling the whole way, cause even though i was cold and it was windy the three Gas stations i passed on the way served as milestone reminders of the coin i was keeping in my pocket. thats right i've been keeping track of the green i have saved and i like the weight of my wallet.
So it may be cold some days, i might even have to patch a flat on the way to and from work but filling my car up once a month. well that makes it all worth it. Plus now... it takes the same amount of time wether i drive or ride.
Right on.

The Bike that gets me where i need to go.
Its not the prettiest bike nor is it the fastest.
But no one would want to steal it and its my ride.

So friends welcome to the second post.
Update on pictures of my bike...i am too lazy to do it. But i do want to write a little bit about the rides i have been having.
So I have been riding to work for about three weeks and i have developed some perspectives and beliefs ( and i will be sharing those with you now because this is the internet and i can with no type of social responsibility.) And yes i got a flat this week.

The Crosswalk issue
There are three types of people when it comes to cross walk etiquette. I will now list them using various types of slang and angst.

The Don't care Butthead
this person is a butthead. and let me tell you why ( and i can because this is the internet). They pull through the crosswalk with disregard of coming to a complete stop, they talk on the phone or get mad at the people using the crosswalk like its some huge inconvenience to come to a complete stop before they fly through the crosswalk at 25 miles an hour.
Now i know that a Bike does not have the same rights as a car ( and people who think they do are nuts) but come to a complete stop or i will spit on your windshield.

The second is
Oops My Bad.
Not as bad as the butthead but just as dangerous. these folks like to pull through the crosswalk see you then back up and give a guilty head nod or wave. While i don't mind them i have had to yell at some( again bikes are not the same as cars). But to this person i say "hey you have seen your sin, now go and sin no more"

The last....
The Golden Child
These are the rare and the few. The driver who is diligent... hands at 10 and 2, eyes checking the mirror and blind spot.  They see me before i see them. as i cross i the crosswalk they hold up traffic from half a block away so they can turn right with out even coming close to hitting me.. To them i tip my helmet, and would stop to help them change a flat. You Golden Child are a rare and beautiful breed. God Bless.

By the way...
Cars are big and made of metal bikes are small and people are made of things that can be splattered Always give the SUV/car/Truck/Van the right of way. Why....BECAUSE ITS A CAR

Okay lets Get things Going

Me = Bill
Job = Nerd with little or no physical activity
Goal = Get healthy without going broke or being ridicules.

So this is a Blog about a computer geek and his ride to work. Now  I must warn you of a few things. I'm a Mac user which means I actually like computers and have a positive experience on them on a consistent basis. I like eating thats all I need to say (nom nom nom). There is a permanent "No Whining" sign around me at all times.

Back to the matter at hand... biking to work
This is what i have begun to do. I will do so till it gets to cold. However the cold to me is below 37ยบ  so just a heads up.  I will post pictures of my bike. I will post hints on how to fix what is broke ( wether it be bike or computer), i will not use proper grammar ( sorry all type A's)

The Bike
Brand : unknown ... it had a head badge on the front with just a picture of the world on it. So a description would have to do. Road Bike with 27 inch wheels 10 speed with track bars. The bike is an old shade of Black (needs paint=future project).
The Bikes moniker = meh.
I know how great a name is that!
Distance to work = 4.4 miles each way
Price of Gas =3.97  >: (  <---emoticon for angry
